A comparative study on dietary diversity and nutritional adequacy between dementia patients and healthy individuals in Kolkata, West Bengal

Background: Dementia is a chronic condition characterised by progressive loss of memory, thinking and behaviour. Several studies indicate that nutritional status as well dietary intake many patients having dementia are not adequate. Malnutrition common problem faced these patients. Dietary diversity an important indicator quality. It well-known factor which influences the individuals. The current study aims to compare adequacy healthy individuals.Methods: 60 controls were recruited per protocol. 24-hour was recorded. assessed in terms Food Variety Score (FVS), Diversity (DDS) Serving (DSS). Additionally, Nutrient Adequacy Ratio (NAR) calculated for energy 15 nutrients (Carbohydrate, Protein, Visible Fat, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pyridoxine, Vitamin B12, Folic Acid, A, C, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron Zinc). Mean (MAR) diet also calculated.Results: mean values FVS (7.2±2 versus 8.1±1.4), DDS (4.1±1 4.8±0.5), DSS (10.8±2 14.2±1.2) significantly lower group compared subjects. NAR MAR except vitamin B12. But B12 than Estimated Average Requirement.Conclusions: In present it observed diets consumed poor Necessary measures should be taken improve quality
